Manitoba Hydro   Crown Corporation of Government of Manitoba

As a national leader in energy conservation, Manitoba Hydro clearly recognizes the mutual dependence of the economy and the environment, epitomizing the principles of sustainable development. Manitoba Hydro is well known for its energy conservation and environmental protection initiatives, and history of involvement, investment, and support for relevant community programs and research. Many of these projects and programs have been delivered on an ongoing basis or have resulted in valuable legacy resources for partner groups. Programs encourage community stewardship of local environments and resources. Manitoba Hydro is providing corporate leadership in environmental education and an example for other resources based companies in Canada. EECOM is proud to be affiliated with Manitoba Hydro as a leading member of the energy industry, and particularly grateful for the direct involvement of their recently retired Environmental Education Specialist, Brendan Carruthers, in the work of the organization.

Patrick Robertson   Outstanding Governmental Individual

I cannot think of another educator in BC, who brings such dedication, interest and professionalism to his work in working with students and educators, while adding his level of experience, breadth of environmental education knowledge, strategic organization understanding and board operation skills to his work as an environmental educator. Robert Litzler  Outstanding Non-Profit Individual

At 76, Robert Litzler never ceases to amaze me, day after day, with his tireless optimism that he communicates with great passion to everyone with whom he is associated in Quebec and in the Francophone world. With extraordinary dedication, Robert works full-time with great fervor (I calculate that he works over 50 hours a week) for the environmental cause that is so dear to him. He is known and recognized by EE stakeholders whether in associations or in teaching establishments, and knows how to build bridges between these two environments that he understands perfectly.

Emile Gautreau   Outstanding Individual

He works with a wide range of people from very young children to seniors, from academics to farmers. All his work is done on a voluntary basis, and with very little formal recognition, partly because of the wide range of organizations and communities he works across. He has brought an astonishingly diverse group of people together and continues to inspire us with his dedication and generosity. He has a gift of working with people from all cultures and backgrounds. Able to teach in French or English, he draws from his Aboriginal heritage to facilitate understanding and cooperation, drawing on what he calls, ‘Nature’s Book’ as the primary source of wisdom and on environmentally-focused teachings such as the medicine wheel, healing stories, and the talking stick. Camila Das Gupta, Halifax, Nova Scotia

Some people have a unique ability to shift the lives of others in a magically constructive way, Emile is such a man. John Caraberis, Pugwash N.S.

SOEEA Outstanding   EE Membership Organization

We strive to assist in the creation, co-ordination and delivery of integrated high quality outdoor and environmental education programs. Saskatchewan students deserve an education that takes them outside and offers first hand experiences. SOEEA labours to support Saskatchewan educators in the development of appropriate and responsible endeavours to meet these needs of our students. It is our hope that through these programs Saskatchewan educators will be empowered to explore new techniques, develop local programs and assist their colleagues in the development of projects and programs. Grant Gardner Outstanding Contribution to EECOM

In all the years that I worked closely with Grant as EECOM's vice-chair, there were innumerable teleconferences and meetings where there were strong, opposing views put forth by the participants. On countless occasions, he found ways to respectfully synthesize our discussions, find common ground, and thus enabling us to move forward all on the same page. Many times I sat back in admiration at his considerable leadership skills, asking myself "how did he do that! Tim Grant, former Chair of EECOM / Co-Editor Greenteacher Magazine 100_0292.jpg

Belfountain Public School   Outstanding K-12

They have had the courage to follow their professional instincts as to what is the best approach for their community, done the research to develop and support the initiative, reached out to get the help they have needed and then offered their experiences in turn to others.I know of no other school/community relationship that has been as successful in bucking the narrow standards driven agenda in education for the last ten or so years and been as successful as this example.
