The call
for proposals is now closed. Thank you to everyone who submitted
a proposal; we had an overwhelming response.
STRANDS
We offer these strands as an invitation to hear from a broad range of topics,
organizations and people. If you don't see your interests specifically mentioned
in this list, please add it where you feel it is most appropriate. We hope to
hear about research, theory, and practice (in and out of the classroom), to
engage in skills/professional development and to create opportunities for planning
educational actions. Like ripples on water, we hope that this list of strands
splashes you gently, scatters sunlight on diverse interests and reaches both
distant and local shores.
Community Engagement - local knowledge; community
gardens; urban and rural; agriculture, forestry, wildlife management; school-community
collaborations; local curriculum…
Critical Reflection
- research/practise dialogue; research issues; race, class, gender
issues; program evaluation; EE infused across the curriculum; ecological identity;
expertise and wisdom…
Ethics -
indigenous perspectives; ecofeminism; deep ecology; environmental justice; social
ecology; bioregionalism; history of environmental thought; ethics in the classroom…
Global Education
- environment & peace; international agreements; politics, humane education,

curriculum, delivery, training and support across Canada and internationally…
Leadership
- environmental actions and sustainable practices in schools; youth engagement;

Outdoor
Experiences - taking your classroom outside; experiential practice;
experiential theory; physical challenges & opportunities; mental challenges
& opportunities; spirituality; mind/body/spirit/earth connections…
TYPES OF SESSIONS
Workshops:
for developing specific professional skills and/or involving significant hands-on
participant involvement in activities. (Time: 90 minutes).
Outdoor Option: to be held outdoors regardless of weather conditions,
and/or requires participants to be by lake, in woods, etc
Presentations:
for focusing on a single topic or project. (Time: 20 minute presentation and
10 minutes for questions).
*Work-in-progress:
for people who would like constructive feed back on their emerging research
ideas and/or for developing educational or action projects. (Time: 10 minute
presentation and 20 minute discussion).
*Poster:
to provide presenters an opportunity to engage in active discussion with other
conferences participants, to discuss research-in-progress or completed work
*Note: both
works-in-progress and poster options will be scheduled to mesh well with social
time to maximize attendance, rather than compete for audience with scheduled
workshops and presentations.
PROPOSAL SUBMISSIONS: please include the following:
1. Title of your session
2. Strand(s) to which your session fits
3. Name, institutional affiliation, mailing address, email address, telephone
and fax numbers for the facilitator/presenter(s) with an asterisk denoting person
to whom all correspondence will be addressed
4. Session type (workshop, outdoor workshop, presentation, work-in-progress, poster).
If your session requires a format or amount of time different than these options,
please describe your needs.
5. Description of session indicating the significance of the proposed topic and
how the participants will be engaged (max. 250 words)
6. Abstract/summary (50 words) which will be translated into French/English for
use in program
7. Audio-visual requirements (slide projector, overhead projector, projector for
computer presentation) or other room/space requirements. We may have limited dark
spaces for AV, so we encourage full light presentations.
